The fix for this was made by Kumar and involved a number of quite subtle changes to the core of the rqspinlock slow path (i.e. when a lock is already locked when attempting to acquire it). While the changes themselves were relatively small, explaining them is out of the scope of this post, given the subtlety of the race conditions involved.
